Steve Havig – Founder

steve@lakesarearealty.com
Steve Havig, founder and president of Lakes Area Realty, brings more than 40 years of sales experience to the real estate industry. His responsiveness to clients and vast knowledge of the thirteen-county Metro Area — and the “movers and shakers” in it — keep him at the forefront of his profession. Steve also knows how to collaborate and negotiate effectively with other real estate professionals that ensures his annual position among the top 1% of Realtors® nationwide. In 2009, Steve was elected by his peers as President of the Minneapolis Area Association of Realtors® after previously serving as Chair of the Community Services Committee, a member of the Board of Directors, Treasurer, and Secretary. As President, during one of the toughest housing markets in years, Steve successfully performed the balancing act of keeping Minneapolis Realtors®, buyers, sellers, and the general public informed about legislative issues and quickly-changing market conditions.
It’s not just the business side that makes Steve Havig someone to know – it’s how much he gives back. A proud Vietnam veteran (1968 and 1969) and recipient of two bronze stars, Steve is also a long-time resident of Minneapolis, which is why he strongly supports housing for veterans and his hometown. He is currently involved with MACV, the Minnesota Assistance Council for Veterans; Housing First Minnesota, housing for homeless vets; the MN 100 Club, which provides financial assistance to the families of first responders who are injured or killed in the line of duty; the Mount Calvary Quilter’s Group that donates hand-made quilts to Tubman, which helps people of all genders and cultural backgrounds in need of safety and shelter; NAMI, the National Association of Mental Illness); the Sanneh Foundation, which serves the holistic youth development needs of the increasingly diverse Twin Cities metro area and Ziggy’s Art. Steve truly cares about people and their needs.
Given Steve Havig’s integrity, honesty and generosity combined with his ceaseless dedication and hard work, it’s no wonder he earned the Twin Cities Business small business award in 2015 and the Better Business Bureau Torch Award for Ethics in 2023.
Steve Havig. Unflappable. Professional. Connected. He’s your Realtor.

Kathy Ekberg – Branch Owner, Duluth
651-503-6971
kekberg@lakesarearealty.comI’ve recently moved to Duluth and am now enjoying my passion for real estate in this beautiful part of the world.
Prior to living in Duluth, I sold real estate in Minneapolis, St. Paul and most of the suburbs for over 15 years. Prior to selling real estate, I taught in St. Paul, Edina and Minneapolis public schools. I’m familiar with navigating the enrollment process and can help families find a great school.
I love selling real estate. Buying or selling a home is the biggest purchase most people make in their lifetimes. I’m committed to making the process as easy and stress free as possible. I work very hard to ensure that my clients are highly satisfied and feel confident to refer their friends and family to me. They know their people will be taken care of by me. If you are thinking of buying or selling your home, I’d love to talk about your next move.

Carson Brooks - Associate Broker - Branch Manager Minneapolis
612-720-6555
There's a moment in every real estate journey — usually somewhere between the second showing and the first sleepless night — when a client stops thinking about square footage and starts thinking about their life. Carson Brooks lives for that moment. Because that's where real estate stops being about property and starts being about people.
Carson is a native Minnesotan who carries this place in his bones. He spent time living in Honolulu, which tells you something about him: he's someone who follows his curiosity. That same spirit shows up in the way he spends his time away from the office — losing himself in a good book, experimenting in the kitchen, exploring new places, and soaking up live arts whenever he can. He believes the best homes, like the best lives, reflect the people inside them. And he brings that philosophy to every client relationship he builds.
With more than two decades in real estate — experience earned across two very different markets — Carson has seen nearly every version of this industry: booming, correcting, uncertain, and everything in between. He leads a branch of Lakes Area Realty not by imposing his will, but by creating the kind of environment where good people do their best work together. Collaboration isn't a buzzword for him. It's how he actually operates.
Carson was honored by the Minneapolis Area Realtors as their Realtor of the Year — recognition that meant a great deal, in part because it came from peers who know exactly how hard this work can be. He has given back through Habitat for Humanity, the Minneapolis Area Realtors Foundation — championing affordable housing and the fight against homelessness — and city development committees, and has devoted considerable time to mentoring and training the next generation of real estate professionals. Carson is an active voice in promoting real estate and homeownership as pathways to stability, wealth, and community — because he believes that when more people have a place to call their own, everyone benefits.
And then there's what may be his deepest conviction: that how we build, buy, and inhabit our homes matters far beyond the walls themselves. Sustainable practices aren't a checkbox for Carson — they're a passion. He actively champions environmentally responsible choices in real estate, because he believes the homes we create today shape the world the next generation inherits.
If you're meeting Carson for the first time, here's what you should know: he's going to listen more than he talks, ask more than he assumes, and care about your outcome the way someone cares when it actually matters to them personally. That's not a sales approach. That's just who he is.
Ready to work with someone who puts people first? Reach out to Carson today and take the first step toward your next chapter.
